Walnuts are packed with nutrients and walnut oil is an excellent way to get even more of the health benefits of walnuts in your diet. They are high in omega-3, fiber, protein and vital minerals including potassium, magnesium and copper. Among the many reasons to enjoy walnuts are the skin benefits of walnut oil, which can be used in cooking and baking, used as a salad dressing or dip, or applied topically, to aid a number of skin conditions.
Loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, unrefined walnut oil cold-pressed walnuts is one of the healthiest plant-based oils out there. It contains omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids in a 4:1 ratio which is considered optimal for human health.
Health benefits:
1. Walnut oil can be a remedy for fungal infections, such as athlete’s foot and candida. “Women’s Herbs, Women’s Health” notes that it is as effective against candida as over-the-counter pharmaceutical medications. It can be applied topically to the affected area, and can also be mixed with other herbal anti-fungals such as garlic, to enhance its effectiveness.
2. Psoriasis is a painful, persistent skin condition that can be alleviated using walnut oil, according to “Healing with Whole Foods: Asian Traditions and Modern Nutrition.” Add it to your bath to soothe inflammation or apply directly to the affected skin.
3. Walnut oil is an excellent plant source of omega-3, according to the “Vegetarian Journal” and is associated with numerous health benefits including protection against heart disease, some types of cancer, and inflammatory disorders including skin conditions such as eczema. Substitute walnut oil for sunflower oil in cooking, or sprinkle it on vegetables or salads.
4. In cosmetology walnut oil is used to soften dry skin and reduce the amount of wrinkles. Moisturizes the skin and protects it from free radicals. Relieves irritation. It is also used as a means of improving tan.

• A mix of walnut oil, sherry vinegar, a touch of garlic, prepared mustard, and salt makes an excellent dressing for an endive and radicchio salad. Top the salad with a sprinkle of crumbled blue cheese.
• Walnut oil is a delicious alternative to olive oil in classic vinaigrettes or for dipping fresh bread. Either try it on its own, or with a splash of sherry vinegar, Cabernet Sauvignon vinegar or verjuice.
• Walnut oil is fantastic tossed through pasta. With a soft blue cheese such as Gorgonzola, steamed fresh green beans or spinach, sautéed mushrooms.
• Use walnut oil to grease ramekins and moulds for desserts such as panna cotta. It will add a delicate, nutty dimension.
• For a festive breakfast or a Sunday brunch, try walnut and pear bruschetta (substitute bananas if you don’t have pears). Grill a thick slice of panettone, brioche or fruit bread, drizzle with walnut oil, top with slices of ripe pear, a few toasted walnuts and lashings of maple syrup, honey or chocolate sauce. Serve with thick Greek yogurt, whipped cream or mascarpone.
• Brush halved fruit such as peach or nectarine with a combination of walnut oil and honey before roasting or grilling, and serve with yoghurt or ice-cream.
• Goats’ cheese marinated in walnut oil is delicious with a salad and some crusty bread as a summer lunch. You can use the remaining oil for dressings or through pasta or potatoes.
• In the winter, parsnips and Brussels sprouts taste great tossed with walnut oil before serving, or add some to mashed potato, carrot and parsnip.
